Can you collect my sofa the same day I call?
Yes, subject to route availability. We reserve same-day slots for urgent situations—end-of-tenancy deadlines, last-minute house sales, or when a new sofa delivery is imminent and the old one must go. Call before midday for the best chance of a same-afternoon collection. If same-day isn't possible, we'll offer the earliest scheduled slot, typically within 24–48 hours, including Saturdays.
Do I need to be present during the collection?
Not necessarily. If the sofa's in a garage, front garden, or another accessible location, and you're comfortable giving us gated or side-passage access, we can collect while you're at work. We'll send before-and-after photos and text confirmation once the job's complete. For items inside the property, someone over 18 must be present to authorise removal and sign the collection note.
What if my sofa won't fit through the door?
We carry tools to dismantle frames, remove legs and arms, and angle awkward pieces through tight spaces. Decades of experience mean we've seen every configuration of Sherbourne housing—narrow hallways, spiral staircases, low door frames. If dismantling isn't enough, we'll assess whether a window or external route works. Scenarios where removal proves genuinely impossible are exceptionally rare, and we'll advise honestly if one arises.
Are you licensed and insured for waste collection?
Absolutely. We're a registered waste carrier with the Environment Agency, holding full public liability insurance. Every collection includes a waste transfer note—your legal proof that waste was handed to an authorised carrier. Using an unlicensed operator exposes you to fines up to £5,000 if your waste is fly-tipped, so always check credentials. Our license number is available on request.
How does your service compare to council bulky waste collection?
Councils typically require 7–14 days' notice, restrict collection to kerbside only (you must move the sofa yourself), offer narrow time windows (often just "morning" or "afternoon"), and charge per item with no labour included. We collect from inside your property at a time that suits you—early morning, evening, weekend—and handle all lifting, manoeuvring, and immediate removal. For anyone with mobility limitations, time constraints, or difficult access, the comparison isn't close.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. Give us two hours' notice and we'll reschedule without penalty. Last-minute cancellations—within two hours of the agreed slot—may incur a call-out fee if our team is already en route, but we'll always discuss options first. Flexibility runs both ways: if we're running late due to traffic or an overrunning job, we'll call ahead and offer to reschedule if the delay doesn't suit you.
